LET’S PLAY
During 2022 and 2023, the US Open extended a genuine and inclusive welcome to all attendees for a fortnight.
We curated interactive, diverse, and engaging experiences to immerse fans in the multifaceted world of tennis, catering to enthusiasts of all kinds. We wanted to empowered fans to express their passion freely, embracing their unique ways of celebrating the sport.
GLOW TENNIS
We developed a tennis-inspired digital and physical hybrid game that put a unique twist on the real-world sport with a delightful visual design, and a kinetic sense of fun that made it memorable and became the main feature of our space 2 years in a row.
Designed with multiple instances and scenarios, each table had a range of look and feel that continued to create a fresh experience with a variety of play where up to 2 players of any age could join.
ADDITIONAL TOUCHPOINTS
In our space, we provided a range of additional attractions for fans to enjoy, including full-size tennis courts where they could play. Alongside this, we introduced Radio Claws; simple interactive claw machine games filled with Amex radios, allowing fans to stay tuned to the main court action while having fun. For two consecutive years, our partnership with La Roche-Posay ensured sunscreen was readily available to all guests. Collaborating with Ralph Lauren, we offered an array of merch, featuring four exclusive designs reserved solely for Card Members. Jason Markk was a standout feature, delivering express professional sneaker cleaning services and ensuring Card Members' footwear sparkled. Finally, to top it off, we provided express Therabody massages and cryo facials, giving fans a chance to relax, cool off, and recharge.
VERO ESCALANTE
We enlisted the talents of world-renowned illustrator Vero Excalante to craft a live mural embodying the deep history and legacy of Amex’s collaboration with the US Open. Set against the vibrant backdrop of NYC and drawing inspiration from its energy, she skillfully captured the tournament's essence, delving into its extensive archives, cultural significance, and socioeconomic influence.
The collaborative mural, organized in a "paint by number" scheme, welcomed participants to add their personal flair to the canvas while staying within the lines. Its primary purpose was to joyously commemorate the esteemed 30-year partnership between Amex and the iconic tournament.
DIGITAL MEMENTOS
Partnering with Vero, we crafted three distinct digital collectibles, or POAPS, to mark this significant milestone between Amex and the US Open. These exclusive mementos were accessible to all visitors at the American Express Fan Experience during the first week of the 2023 US Open. Upon collection, Card members could unlock further on-site offers, enhancing their experience at the event.
BREAK THE LOVE X AMEX
To further democratize access to the game, we joined forces with Break the Love to introduce the game's passion to the streets of NYC through a rooftop activation. This event was brimming with Card Member amenities, a special limited edition merch collab, custom nails and even included a mini pickleball court for added excitement.
